What the hell is PR anyway?

Did you know that, according to a recent survey, 88% of UK businesses don’t use Public Relations in their marketing approach?

Despite there being a thriving community of PR professionals working in the UK, many of these work in-house and for businesses who don’t have the resources to hire their own PR expert, they may never have interacted with the industry before and so wouldn’t automatically think of formulating a PR strategy as part of their marketing plan.

So what is PR?

PR, short for Public Relations, refers to strategic communications that help to maintain or cultivate a positive public image.

Working for either an individual or a business, a PR professional works with clients to present them in the best possible light. This helps them reach new audiences and increase people’s awareness of what they offer. It can also take potential customers from awareness to consideration, moving them from being aware of what you offer towards considering you as a provider.

A strong PR strategy can help you assert your knowledge and expertise, making you your industry’s trusted voice. By issuing strong copy and providing an opinion on stories and issues that arise for your industry or your customer, a PR consultant’s job is to make you the one to trust.

While there are lots of modern ways to market your business, with a range of social media tools at your disposal, sometimes PR is all about going old school. Working with print, digital, radio and televised media, your PR strategy

will expose your name to local, national and trade media to reach a wide audience.
